Dalit Bar
Registered Clinical Counsellor & Art Therapist

In addition to being a mother and an artist, I am a registered clinical counsellor and art therapist with over 15 years in public and private practice in Melbourne. I have a passion for working with children and their families, where I aim to create a healing space and where I can support clients to explore and understand the experience or events that are troubling them.

My approach incorporates a blend of counselling and psychotherapy methods to fit the needs of my clients including Family Therapy, Art/Play Therapies, Sandplay Therapy, Meditation and Mindfulness.

I can assist with: Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADD/ADHD/ODD and Social Emotional Regulation Difficulties.

Counselling Conversations

Here’s a video where I was invited to participate in a new book edited by Kim Billington. This is her little introduction to my chapter.

Enjoy!

Art Therapy

Art therapy is the process of making art, and exploring your inner world, developing greater self-awareness, expressing thoughts and feelings, and better coping with stress. Sometimes it is too difficult to express ourselves with words. Art therapy can provide another means of exploration, communication and healing. You do not need to be good in art the benefit from Art Therapy. Learn more

Sandplay Therapy

Sandplay therapy is a recognised form of psychotherapy method based in Jung psychology fort both children and adults. Sandplay therapy provides a safe and protected space where the complexities of the self are explored and integrated into the psyche for emotional healing. It is a self-directed process, where the therapist does not interpret client’s work, only by invitation by the client. It is one of the therapy methods I offer that can be effective for some clients, both children and adults.

The client creates a three-dimensional picture based on their imagination using sand, water and small objects. It is a way for the unconscious to become visible. It is called “non-verbal” therapy, as the sandplay therapist is an active witness and guide in that process, following the client’s inner journey through symbolic play.

There is growing neurological evidence for the use of sandplay and creative art therapies. The research supports the facts that emotional memories and trauma are stored in the right hemisphere of the brain, along with non-verbal, sensory images, body images and emotions. This type of therapy, along with art therapy, are non-verbal therapies, are the most effective ways to access and release the unconscious and bring them into consciousness and help with healing.
