Child & Youth Counsellor Bayside

Help your child or teenager function better and feel better!

Some children are stressed and find it hard to trust others. They are afraid to seek comfort and yet are unable to soothe themselves. They may not be communicating through language, but through their actions and behaviours.

Counselling can help you and your child to find more peace and happiness.

Some of the problems or types of behaviours which your child or teenager may be showing:

  • Appears to be worried or anxious

  • Appears withdrawn

  • Changes in mood

  • Problems at school, academically or socially

  • Sleeping problems

  • Bullying or being bullied

  • Rebellious behaviours

  • Difficulty adjusting to divorce or relocation

There is always hope. You are not alone.

I believe there is always hope, and you and your child can learn new skills to solve any problem, regardless of what it is.

It will take time, effort and commitment, but you and your family can be happier.

Why choose me as your child therapist?

I use a holistic therapy approach, which aims to match the developmental needs of the children and help in the assessment process and interventions.

I use nonverbal expressive therapy in my practice, to help children feel safe, and to help them trust the process of therapy so they don’t have to rely on their cognition to express themselves.

I have extensive training in creative therapies. I am trained in Art Therapy and Sandplay Therapy as well as sound knowledge of trauma and attachment problems.

I recognise that children are naturally drawn to making art and play.

How does it work?

The art making provides a way to help the child express their inner world, before they even have words to describe feelings.

The process of the art making helps the child focus on emotional self-regulation, self-soothing, mastery and control through the senses.

Creating art using symbol images provides boundaries and containment for children. Thoughts and feelings on the paper may appear less threatening and give children a sense of control.
